A bunch of us at work are volunteering our services as lawyers to Youth UpRising, a small non-profit organization in Oakland, California dedicated to the support, development and advancement of at-risk teens and young adults. YU offers a ton of valuable services to local kids, including vocational and educational counseling, transitional career services, creative arts and media instruction, recording facilities, onsite medical care, community grant-making, and a Cal-SAFE high school program for pregnant teens and young mothers. Plus, YU serves tasty burgers at its youth-run onsite cafe.
Our company is sponsoring an online contest based on employees' community-based volunteer efforts, and we recently submitted a video entry (conceived, directed, shot, edited and scored by YU's amazingly talented members). The non-profits with videos that receive the most votes will be awarded grant money.
